Day 1 down!

I arrived at the office at about 7:50 am all pumped up and ready to go only to find that the president was the only other person there already. I guess I was a little excited for my first day and not totally sure of how long it would take me to get downtown.  :)

Downtown Des Moines looks so pretty in the morning.  I love that the Christmas lights are still on the trees that line the road leading up to the Capitol.

As the rest of the office arrived I was given a tour and was introduced to everyone.  I also learned right away how to use the coffee pot, how to work the dishwasher,  and where the leftover Christmas goodies were.  I'm told the kitchen is the most popular room at ABI, but isn't it everywhere?!

I was shown where MY office was located and how to set up my computer.  Its so tempting to decorate it or at least put up a few pictures, but I keep reminding myself that these three weeks will go by so quickly! I spent most of the day getting acquainted, addressing thank you cards, learning how to use various different office machines and organizing the office.  I also learned about a new website called Trello.  If you are a list maker it is awesome! You make tasks and assign them to three different categories,  to do, doing, done.  It's nice because you can share lists with other people.  This would be perfect for group projects.

I also found that everyone in the office brings their lunch from home most days. Noted...I'll bring mine tomorrow. :)

There is a long to do list waiting for me and I'm so excited that I have way plenty to keep me busy! Tomorrow I'll get down to business and check some tasks off the list.

Tomorrow is Friday and that means the weekend! I'm really looking forward to having some free time in the city.  The outdoor ice skating rink has a special $5 rate for college students who show their student id, I'll definitely be taking advantage of that! :) Olympic figure skating, here I come!
